There is now a superior product for cardiac stress testing that is much better for patients and physicians. This cardiac stress system provides a better diagnostic test which measures cardiac demand rather than pain induced heart rate elevation due to orthopedic strain or poor lactic acid buffering and tolerance. The research completed tests the treadmill versus our product. The apparatus is superior to other cycles for maximal and submaximal testing as well as cardiovascular conditioning. Other stationary cycles will yield lower oxygen consumption values because it is non-weight bearing, uses limited musculature, and is mechanical efficiency dependent. Generally, cycle protocols require an individual maintain a constant pedal speed. An individual must have sufficient leg strength and be mechanically efficient at the chosen RPM to succeed at such a testing procedure or conditioning program. These programs are based on resistance only. Speed is removed from the equation. This equipment is ergonomically correct and requires very little skill.

The cycle is very safe with little impact on joints. The protocol and cycle are much more comfortable for testing and conditioning. The protocol uses body weight for an individually tailored program or testing procedure. The system recruits more musculature than any other piece of equipment as proven by a new metabolic equation. (i.e. 1.4 x kgm). The system uses a pulse width modulator control and measuring card to provide voltage to an electromagnetic brake that holds a constant resistance regardless of pedal speed for the ultimate in comfort. The program, protocol, and magnet set-up provide one hundred forty-four different resistance settings. The individual can use any combination of upper and lower body muscles at any speed comfortable to complete the revolutions which initiates and maintains a specific oxygen demand. This is directly related to cardiovascular function.

The cycle is efficient and effective. In the severely diseased cardiac population, a physiological max was reached on 85% of the patients versus 52% using the treadmill. We can test and most likely condition 33% more people. The average maximal heart rate is 17 bpm higher than using the treadmill. This is not even a good competition, but somehow the treadmill has withstood the test of time. The research proves that subjects are working much harder at an earlier stage of the protocol and perceiving it as much easier based on AT and RPE. We can set a wattage or target heart rate and resistance will change to reach or maintain the desired criteria. Proper ergonomics, improved muscle recruitment, and workload delivery prevents premature severe lactic acid accumulation to allow almost everyone to succeed at cardiac assessment and conditioning.

EKG quality for the cycle in research trials has proven it to be similar or slightly better than the treadmill. Anyone who has manually tried to acquire blood pressures on a motor driven treadmill with the noise and vibration will greatly appreciate how much easier they are to acquire using this apparatus. Exercise stress testing procedures has not changed much since 1963. It is time to ride into the future of cardiac diagnostics with a system and apparatus that is safer, more comfortable, and effective. This product provides a much better diagnostic test that can be completed by practically anyone almost eliminating the need for pharmacological testing procedures.
